Traying Persons with Disabilities in Contemporary Cinematic Art

Over time, the societies’ relation towards people with disability has changed its course, due to influence of scientific knowledge, as well artistic representation disability. Cinema is a globally present medium, so question on attitudes society emerged. In this paper, overall 20 movies in which main character have been analyzed. The analysis shows dominance disabled male characters. characters often motoric impairment, followed by mental disorders, and intellectual Mental disorders are analyzed portrayed aggressive behavior (e. g. violence). mostly mainstream, profit-driven. Implications multiple: there need construct inclusive cinematography – (sub)discipline within media culture, could adequately address social stigma marginalization disabilities, at point current (movies series). Also, for introduction critical content culture education curriculums, promoting alternative cinema, adequate values.
